As part of the Management of Smart Cities programme, a virtual expert lecture and workshop entitled New Standards and Indicators for the Development of Smart Cities/Communities in Slovenia will take place on Wednesday, 26 August 2026. The event is intended for students, graduates and lecturers of the Management of Smart Cities programme, who are connected through the Management of Smart Cities – Community of Practice. It will take place as part of the course Public Policies and Project Management in the Public Sector.
The guest experts will be Assoc. Prof. Dr David Kocman, researcher at the Jožef Stefan Institute and President of the SRIP Smart Cities and Communities, and Dr Igor Bizjak, Director of the Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia.
The meeting will focus on how cities can use modern standards, data and internationally comparable indicators to monitor their development and improve the quality of public services, sustainability, resilience and residents’ quality of life.
Participants will learn, among other things, how the “smartness” of a city is measured, which indicators are crucial, and how standardised approaches and data analysis can support better decision-making and planning for the development of cities and communities.
Particular emphasis will also be placed on how to ensure that the development of smart cities is based not only on the introduction of new technologies, but above all on people’s needs, quality of life, and inclusive and sustainable community development.
The event offers an opportunity to connect current professional insights with study content and to engage directly in discussion with two experts working on the development of smart cities and communities at both research and practical levels.
